Since fabricating your crown would take days, you’d have to wear an interim crown that many don’t love because of its uncomfortable fit and unnatural look. Once the permanent crown is ready, you’ll book another appointment for placement.
Thanks to CEREC dentistry, placing a dental crown no longer needs multiple visits. Once we place your single-visit crown, no further dental visits are needed other than your regular six-month check-ups. But how do they work? CEREC combines state-of-the-art computer-assisted design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technologies to plan, design, fabricate, and place dental crowns in a single appointment.
The CAD technology uses digital scans of your tooth to create a detailed 3D model, ensuring that every contour, angle, and surface of the crown perfectly matches your natural teeth. Once the crown design is approved, we feed it into the in-house milling machine, which manufactures your crown in 20 minutes! Once your crown is ready, the dentist makes a few last-minute adjustments before adhering it to your tooth with permanent dental cement.

Dr. Irbad Chowdhury
Irbad Chowdhury, DMD, DABOI, AFAAID, FAGD, FICD, FICOI, received his dental degree and completed his residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry and Implant Fellowship at the Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Dental Medicine. He is board-certified in dental implants and is also an advanced dentistry expert. After completing his residency and private practice in Saint Louis, MO, Dr. Chowdhury moved to Chicago.
A former faculty and clinical professor at SIU School of Dental Medicine, he now serves as a clinical instructor/professor at Midwestern University Dental School.
